Overall Program Learning Objectives:

1. Share evidence informed best practices in mental health and addictions through the lens of the health care provider, patient and caregiver.
2. Facilitate knowledge transfer related to assessment & management approaches of older adults with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
3. Understand lived experiences related to recovery and addictions.
4. Provide opportunities for networking and peer to peer learning.

We will endeavor to accommodate your choices, however, workshop numbers are limited and may be assigned based on space availability.

  • Lisa Joworski: Intentional Living: Evidence Based Strategies to Enhance Subjective Well-Being

    1. Each participant will learn three factors that determine a person’s subjective well-being
    2. Each participant will learn three ways that happiness activities can fit a person’s needs
    3. Each participant will be able to identify five ways to sustain happiness

  • PANEL: Dr. Bonnie Purcell, Tammy Matthews, Clara Parra, Leanne Oke: Community Outreach for Seniors with Addiction Issues

  • Learning Objectives
    1. To introduce community outreach teams in London-Middlesex that engage with older adults with addiction issues, either as a primary or secondary issue, using a team-based approach
    2. Using a complex case scenario, demonstrate how addiction issues are unique in the senior population and introduce harm reduction approaches, depending on the client’s stage of change

  • Carrie Howard: Aging with a Developmental and/or Intellectual Disability: The Changing Landscape

  • Learning Objectives
    1. Identify prevalence of the older adult with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities and the multiple factors they face as they age.
    2. Discuss possible behavior expressions,  interventions, Assessments and considerations for care.
